Knobbiest too big of a deal for this guy

Was in the market for a new gravel tire for my 2016 Diverge a1 sport.

Came across the WTB riddler, so I went and measured my fork wheel well and rear wheel well. 37c tire should leave me with atleast 3-4mm of space between the tire sides and the frame at the rear.

The package arrived today and after putting them on, I realized that I had totally blundered and didn’t measure the clearance for the rear bottom part of the frame (the last piece of frame the tire would go by before meeting the ground again).

I am wondering if anyone would recommend cutting off the edge knobbies from their tire. I think if I were able to cut them off, it would stop the tire from rubbing, but maybe only still allow 1.5 mm or clearance. Is this enough for side clearance?

How often are those stubborn side knobbiest really used anyways?

I was thinking another option could be to use this tire on the front, and order a more narrow tire for the back. Unfortunately would leave me with two different tires, but if that’s what I have to do, so be it!

Any advice? Should I trim the knobbies? Buy a new tire for the back?

I could return it, but I have to pay return shipping (likely 1/3 of the price of a new tire)

Despite the look, it doesn’t take a whole ton of force to rotate the tire.
