bought this in Santa Cruz in the late 90’s. i’m fixing it up again to get back on. put thousands of miles on this old bad boy but i’ve never positively id’d it. was once told “probably Italian” by a builder but that was pure speculation.

i don’t know the terminology but the head tube joinery has a a design i don’t see much and there is this pointy thing on the back of the head tube that i haven’t noticed on other bikes. anyone know what that is? probably the best clue.

my friend put mavic wheels, cruiser bars and the brooks saddle on it in early 2000’s but thinking about putting drop bars back on. this thing still flies! love it.

  1. Pointy thing is a pump peg. It fits into a dimple on the end of the pump.

Can you take a picture of the drive side?

  2. Did you try looking up the barcode/v.i.n? You can potentially figure the manufacturer out by the first 3 letters on that number.

Nice lugs, it’s clearly a quality frame. That aluminum fork will help with the ID. Sign up at Bike Forums, Classic and vintage and once you get ten posts you can post pics. Someone there will ID it in 10 minutes.

  4. Looks like a ~1993 Specialized Allez. They’d switched to OS tubing by then and had the same interesting seat cluster. Oh and an aluminum fork.

    Whatever it is it’s cool!
