I got this 64 cm Diverge Comp E5 a couple years ago and never really took a shine to it. First of all, I’m a leggy bastid and with the saddle raised to my proper leg extension* the bars are too low for my liking. Second of all, it’s way too road-biased for my liking and really doesn’t like singletrack.
Still, it’s a good bike and the Garbaruk 11-50 cassette and long-cage derailleur are <<chef’s kiss>>. Imagine my delight when my 14-year-old decided that a set of flat pedals and some wider bars would be just the ticket for him as he outgrows the Kona Honzo he’s been commuting to school on! He is not much into trail riding, but he loves to haul the mail on pavement and smooth gravel so this should be just the ticket for him.
I stopped by the LBS and got these sweet pedals by One Up Components, which are **almost** a perfect match on the color anodizing. Next week I’ll add a Salsa Cowchipper, some Shimano ‘interrupter’ bar-top brake levers, wider tires, and see if he likes a shorter stem. After that, well… a better crankset? Carbon rims? Lots and lots of bright blue water-bottle bolts?
