I used to have Doval rings. This one seems to be missing the micro adjust part that locks the bolts in position, so it’s pretty useless as it will just move when you attach it to the crank arm.
In general terms , oval rings are set so you have the largest bumps at TDC when your pedal arm is roughly between 80-130 degrees from TDC on each side. This is when you’re leg is producing the most power so you can push the larger ratio. The remaining area tapers down so as to reduce the gearing as your pedal arm travels to those areas.
I found them useful when I had weak knees but don’t bother any more, and Doval stopped producing them.
