I have a question about replacing the microshit (this is not a joke, it’s really bad) system with a 105 Shimano. I have a road version Triban 120RC.
The bike has 2×8 speeds (11/13/15/18/21/24/28/34), promax rotor brakes and wheels 700×28c.
Can I buy this set Shimano 105 2×11s like in the second picture? Or will the brake system and both bushings also need to be replaced? And which cassette is better to consider:
1. CS 12-25T
2. CS 11-28T
3. CS 11-30T
4. CS 11-32T
5. CS 11-34T ?

the freehub is likely not 11s road compatible. the only 11s roadbike cassette that fits 8-10s freehub bodys is the 11-34. if you want to use a narrower cassette you will have to replace the rear hub/wheel with one that has an 11s road freehub.
brakes are fully compatible
11s chains are narrower than 8s. you also have to replace the crankset with a 11s model.
the triban comes stock with a band-type front derailleur. the groupset in the picture comes with a braze-on front derailleur. to mount it you need an adapter like Shimano SM-AD91 that matches your seat tube diameter.
How are those brakes? If you buy the mechanical version of the 105 group, you are locked into mechanical braking, or at best mechanically actuated hydraulics like TRP HyRd or Juintech.
Obviously a full hydraulic system will be pricier. You could ease that by stepping down one level to Tiagra. Bonus is its 10sp so you can choose any cassette size up to 34t
curious are you planning on eventually upgrading the frame, and first just going for components?
I have upgraded my rc120 with avid bb7 brakes, shimano cassette & claris RD – everything feels so much more premium now & aint that expensive, tyres swapped to schwalbes g all around
You can, GS RD will work with 30+ cassette. 32 or 34 will work fine.
