I’m returning to work after maternity leave and I used to commute (go to work, groceries, errands) on my old hybrid. I need to a new bike now and not sure what to choose – road, gravel or hybrid bike?
I wanted to use a budget friendly road bike (see the attached photo) as a “work out” and I was wondering if it would be a good commuter too.
My commute is 12 kilometres (one way) through busy inner city. Ideally, I would like to attach a kids’ bike trailer to the bike when dropping the kids to day care or going out for day trips with the family.
Any ideas or advice are welcome!

What is available in your area? I mean, the bike on that picture looks like pure racing/sports to me. If I think of a commuter, I’d thin about something like [this ](https://www.leasegemak.nl/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/1280_U1Xd4ssysUb6.png) but bikes like there are not available everywhere, especially not in areas where the majority of people consider bikes as just a thing for sports
Well to start I’m not a fan of child carriage on bikes and trailers just seems too dangerous risky even as an experienced rider.
The bike you’re showing would be fine for commute on good roads as its light and efficient inexpensive to fix. But as in the other comment its about your location and road conditions. A traditional hybrid would be better always in most conditions and be able to fit more accessories bigger tyres more comfort.
