Hotel Caro & Selig, Tegernsee – modern boutique hotel with a beautiful view

For the last three nights of our bike tour we chose the Hotel Caro & Selig. The 4-star boutique hotel is located in the center of the city of Tegernsee on Lake Tegernsee. It is part of the Marriott Autograph Collection. The hotel is named after Caroline of Baden, Queen of Bavaria, for whom Lake Tegernsee was her favorite place. It opened in March 2023 and is therefore still quite new.
The massive exterior of the hotel, whose size does not fit well into the tranquil location, is softened by the wooden cladding. This color also continues in the lobby. Warm wood tones determine the atmosphere of the entrance area. In contrast to this are the walls and room dividers, some of which are tiled in blue and white colors.
The hotel has a total of 125 rooms. Our room is not big, but sufficient. The warm, natural wood colors dominate here too, which makes the room very cozy. The bathroom has a glass pane overlooking the room, which makes the bathroom appear larger. From the balcony you have a beautiful view of Lake Tegernsee and the surrounding mountains. But this is not the case in all rooms. The rooms on the lowest floor in particular are almost underground, so that you only see a wall from there.
The bed is very comfortable and the room is quiet. The spa area is small but cozy.

We really liked this:
– The location of the hotel is central in Tegernsee near the train station. The lake can be reached in a few minutes.
– Our room had a nice view. The view of the lake is even better from the rooftop bar.

We didn’t like this much:
– It is a large building in a densely built-up area among other large buildings. A cheaper room on the lowest floor and without a view would have been too oppressive for us.

Our conclusion: The hotel is recommended. It is not a traditional Upper Bavarian-style hotel, but offers the advantages of a modern 4-star hotel.
