Completely new to cycling so bear with me , I recently picked this up but I want to put some mountain bike tyres on it . On the tyre wall it says 26×1.50 so does anyone have any recommendations for tyres ? Do I need to get wider wheels to accommodate wider tyres ? Any help is appreciated

That Pine Mountain was sold with 1.95″ tires, but someone put slick narrow commuting tires on it at some point. The rims are plenty wide for a bigger tire, and I think you should probably be able to fit a 26×2.25 on there without issue.
As far as which tires, what matters is where and when you plan to ride. Where as in city streets, trails, gravel, dirt, sand, etc., and when meaning time of year and weather conditions.
