Today Davide from Garda Bike Hotel shows me a sensational local climb, Monte Baldo. Following a beautiful ride to the climb, we take on 24km and 1500m climbing, including a steep initial 12km plus switchbacks galore! I also cause a little chaos during a romantic meal for 2 and also explore the local supermarket.

Bella Italia! (Not the restaurant chain).
4:26 Paris-Roubaix? That street were nicer and smoother than the one in London, …and many paved roads. 😛
4:44 Wow, gorgeous scenery! :O
Sounds like you're getting absolutely invaluable real-life experience for longer rides in the high mountains. Great preparation for events like La Marmotte. 😉
Ps. Hope you and Jayne had a lovely meal. 🙂
@Phil – cannot beat riding big mountains. Did my first trip this year. Already booked my next one and only been back a month. Nice to see the Pinarello Prince – one of the contenders on my short list.
amazing scenery phil. did you book a package?
Amazing cycle there Phil, well done on the pacing…..and what scenery wow. A trip for us all to aspire to. Plus an excellent demonstration of how us fellas always know how to make a romantic meal for 2 even more special by inviting us all along 🤣🤣🤣
'Stunning ride and great video Phill……awesome place!'
Epic video that Phil, one of your best. A climb and scenery to die for. Stunning. Great pacing as well, 30k climb is no mean feat. Well done sir.
Just awesome , total envy , and have now put Italy 🇮🇹 on must visit list,🤛🏻👌🤩
Just waiting for Michael Caine and the boys on those roads ,classic roads n views
The portioning at that restaurant leaves me wondering: did you go to a shop for a cheeseburger afterwards?
Did Davide even break a sweat? 😅😂😂 great video Phil! Good to see you made it to the continent albeit different to the original plan.
Super stylin it Phill!
Great scenery! I assume you’ve been for a bike setup? Your toeing is quite excessive.
More outdoor riding, less Zwift 😉
As a non Geologist i can tell you those rocks are a tad older than me n you. Those views n roads are amazing. Poor Jayne having to put up with you on the camera during your meal. I would have asked where the rest of the food was. What is with the posher the restaurant the less food they give you for the amount of money you give???? That's why i stay in Blighty . Pie n mash.. ALL DAY.
Excellent vid and location, researching a bike trip there now – cheers !
O o a Nice intimate romantic dinner shared with the whole world 😂 I really loved this video. So beautiful to see the mountains and get an impression of the views and watch how a rider like you sort of 'struggles'' makes me think the Alpes are still a bridge very much too far for me. First try out some hilly terrain. Cows in the mountains makes me think of my mother who lived like a sort of Heidi with Swiss foster parents in the Alpes due to a sort of stronging up programm for very hunger skinny children after the war. That is why we always went to that region on holidays when I was a kid. Good memories. That harbour, indeed sublime!
Which greens do you drink please Phil?
How many people would take their better half on a romantic holiday and buy them a Ferrari, what a man 😂 great video Phil those roads and scenery is what outside riding should always be like 👍 oh and nice start to the video with the original fiat 500 convertible
Good one Phill. I'm greatly impressed by your ability to complete an 100km+ ride given the portion size of your dinner the night before lol But then again, in North America everything tends to be bigger 😉
Hey Phil, long time no see. After some pandemic-related life-changing events, I'm back in Chile with the wife, the cats… and the trainer. The international move was slow and stressful, and we had to leave a lot behind. Then we had some mandatory quarantine here before even looking for a place to rent, but we're finally settled far from the city, next to a lake and a volcano, and I started riding again to recover the form I lost… and to lose the many kilos I gained. It will be slow, but I've done it before so I know it's possible. It's "road to cat A" all over again.
By the way, that was a beautiful climb! Such gorgeous views. Well, see you around Zwift or in your next video!
It seems you had a good time in Italy Phil. That’s not too far from my hometown. Climbs are very long and demanding there. Pacing yourself is indeed the best way to go. Looking forward to see the second part!
Looks amazing
Great video. We visit Riva regularly to explore by bike. A fantastic base. Can not wait to ride those roads again. Lucky you.
Phil nothing unromantic about a meal with Jayne and a thousand viewers, your bite to eat with Davide and that view was more romantic 😂 absolutely phenomenal video really enjoyed Phill 👍🏻 Btw was that a Rolex submariner I spotted 😍
Great episode Phil.
Great video Phil. Really entertaining and congratulations on the first big outdoor climb. Looked tough! 👍👍😊
Bellissimo, really enjoyed the video. What a great trip
How you like that HEXR helmet? Can you imagine the guys in the old days w no power meters, they never looked down and just did it by feel. In a sense, that's better cause you really listen to your body.
I stayed in limone , across the water. Went and sailed across to malcesine and got the cable car up with Mrs P x. It is a stunning area, even better on the bike, wow! (ps what a holiday that was, we even bought tickets from the hotel to see Pavarotti give a charity concert in his hometown of Modena, at Modena Football stadium. Across the road from the Ferrari plant. Loved the Vid, you have come a long long way and the vid production is as good as any ive seen ( new fave)
I grew up 10 minutes from there, what a place eh? I haven't ridden it yet though, as I now live in grey and wet London as well.. but I think I'll give a ring to my folks and tell them as soon as it's possible I'm visiting 🙂 in the meantime I better get on the turbo and train train train!
Hi,
Big fan!
I have the chance to get the pinarello prince 2020 for an absolute bargain… Took it for a ride and loved the responsiveness/ handling … But I certainly felt the road buzz… Afterwards I tried the aethos … More comfortable but much more subdued / less responsive… I like the prince but not sure if it becomes too harsh after several hours… How did yours feel? What size tires were on? How does it compare to other bikes you've ridden? Not sure if youve tried the canyon ultimate before? That's the other option I'm considering. Less likely also the madone …
How do I follow your strava routes
Thanks found your name on strava
