GX cassette 10-52 — is this normal?
I noticed it makes a similar sound when I pedal from a stop position, so I got it off my bike to check. Appreciate any feedback!
The backlash is normal, this is your hub’s degree of engagement. However it does look like you are missing the end cap that sits between your hub axle and frame

Yep. Depending on the hub type you will have a few degrees of turn before the hub engagement. The Fancier/more expensive the hub the less play you get usually due to more points of engagment.
The dull clunk/pinging sound is just the engagment amplifying through the spokes and rim. As long as you dont have any in and out play (cassette moving off the hub outwards) your good to go.
