I’ve been thinking a lot about what to do with this bike. I’ve got a commuter already, but this bike got me thinking – would it be a good commuter?
Previous owner installed these 29×1.95 tires which barely fit this frame (can’t install fenders) so I switched them to 700×45 at the back and 700×40 on the front. It’s got a dynamo hub, one hell of a bright front light, and a cable for the back light.
The groupset seems to be more like the one for gravel bike conversion, as there are too many gears for a commuter IMO. What would you do with this bike? Fenders, rear rack, rear light would be my first mods probably.

Seems like a perfect commuter. Your list of ad ons is exactly what I would do.
I think you overthinking it. For me a bike that moves and can fit fenders and rack is a commuter. No such thing as ‘too many gears’ for commuter. Literally just stick to one gear when riding if it suits you. The only consideration is if it is too expensive to park it in public
