Hey everyone, I’m going this evening to check out a Salsa Timberjack 27.5. It will be my first dedicated bikepacking bike and my first mountain bike. The seller claims it’s in pretty good shape and has not been ridden much by him at all. Obviously I’ll do my best to confirm its condition in person.

He’s asking $500 for it. I’ve done a lot of research and tried to get a sense of the value of this bike used and I’m just looking for some opinions as to whether this is a good deal? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I looked around my local area and couldn’t find many for sale to compare. I attached a photo from the listing if that’s helpful at all.

Any quick opinions and/or sentiments are much appreciated. Thanks so much!

Does the seller have proof of purchase? Unless they know you personally I don’t see why they would sell it for $500 complete unless it was stolen. Don’t buy stolen goods as the original owner/ police can recover it from you without reimbursement to you (just one more reason not to buy stolen goods).

Also, if you take it to a bike shop, they will typically take down the model & serial number at intake for service, partially for insurance reasons. Sometimes the serial is checked against national databases, it would be flagged, set aside for police & the original owner.
