I’m in a pickle of sorts…
In the market for a bikepacking rig and I did a ton of research and test rode a ton of bikes and landed on the OBED Boundary. It’s probably the best bang for buck bike I could find.
I ordered in a medium frame size and added DT Swiss wheels. They got back to me saying their mediums are out of stock for the Boundary, but they’d upgrade me to a GRX for free, which is the next tier up for frames.
It’s a sweet offer honestly, the GRX runs about $500 more than the boundary.
But the GRX is more of a gravel/Enduro racing frame. No mounts on the fork. Little different geometry.
I think it’d totally work for a bikepacking rig….I just really wanted fork mounts.
What would you do? Wait for the boundary to come back in stock in about 6 weeks? Or take the free upgrade to the GRX?

6 weeks isn’t a huge delay, but on the other hand the grx has a huge triangle for a frame bag and you likely wouldn’t need fork bags. I think it’s a win/win either way. Maybe you can swing a deal for waiting 6 weeks?
Is the axle to crown the same on the two forks? You could ask for the bikepacking fork on the GRX
No mounts on forks is a bummer but I could live with that. But. The offered GVR has an integrated cable routing handlebar. Some people would like it but for me this is a no go: no easy way to revert the stem; no easy way to install aerobars; probably would be extra difficult to mount anything to that handlebar; more hard/expensive to mingle with cables.
Personally, I would wait for the initially requested bike. And I don’t see any components that justify extra price (apart from the handlebar but I don’t like that upgrade).
