Today I got a flat, so I went to the bike shop. On my way out I saw this lock. It is the size of my arm.

Yeah those are goofy looking. The idea is that they’re so thick that a 4” grinding wheel is too small to cut through, even with unlimited time and spare disks. Lock picking lawyer did a video on one.

It’s an early attempt at making and angle grinder proof lock. They hadn’t developed the fancy coatings that lite and hiplock use so use a really thick heavy aluminium casing.
Look wildly impractical, hardly a surprise they didn’t catch on. never seen one in the wild myself.
Looks like a link from the anchor chain of a ship.

neat, but someone with a big pipe cutter can just cut the rack

It’s aluminum with a typical steal ulock shackle in the center. Not really meant to be carried around. Instead you leave it at work or home. I wouldn’t be surprised if it belonged to a bike shop or employee.

And the bike is still gone

I thought it was an art exhibit at first glance… Making a statement about bike theft in the area. Looks like a cartoon lock.
It actually looks effective after watching the video.

I would like to have one for my bike. Something as effective but much smaller scale
