Hey,
I moved to LA 8 months ago and have tried to find some exciting trails. All I am finding is quite boring, fire road, climb for 1 hour and downhill for 5 minutes kind of rides. Its mostly been westside, santa monica and topanga rides.
I miss fun mountain biking with the nice flow, technical/features that scares you and overall just feeling energized from riding. Where are the great features, single tracks etc that is not all about climing and then down?
For example this is where we used to ride in NYC. Blue Mountain. Loved that placed: [https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/888036/blue-mountain-reserve](https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/888036/blue-mountain-reserve). Or this gem in the middle of Queens: [https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/340491/cunningham-park](https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/340491/cunningham-park)

Have you ridden El Prieto or Laguna?
Whitings and Greer Ranch are local favorites too.
Looks kinda boring to me.
Drive out to Angelus Oaks. Park at The Oaks Restaurant. Ride S.A.R.T. eastbound and back. Look it up.
San Clemente. Laguna Top of the world. Trabuco Canyon. Pasadena Mount Wilson.
Check out Rocky peak over in Simi valley , definitely a different style trail system mostly double black trails with gnarly chunk and huge rock drops..
The grudge and undertow are my usual trails but I did ride a new section called “Freebird to Lower G” that tested my skills in a fun challenging way!
I ended up busting my ass on a drop and fractured my knee ( vid is on my profile) but can’t wait to get some redemption.
That’s the big change I had to get used to coming from Texas to LA. It’s 1 up, 1 down here and that’s almost a whole ride. Texas is no elevation super flowy. I haven’t found much of anything that doesn’t require some serious climbing, but there is a lot of fun stuff once you get past that. Check out space mountain, reseda, moorpark road trail head off the 101, castaic (tapia canyon rd). Kenneth hahn has some fun trails but only around 15 miles of trails total if you do it all both ways, but not as long of climbs. Feel free to DM me if you wanna get out there or check out SORG on strava if you use it. Super big group of mountain bikers in Santa Monica area, they have a big group ride every Saturday.
Get Trailforks. They have maps of where the trails are and most have Photos and video of people riding the trails.
