My free hub came with a spacer, I am installing a shimano 11spd cassette. The cassette also included a spacer to put before the largest cog. I tried putting on the cassette with both the included spacer and the shimano spacer and the smallest cog wouldn’t seat onto the free hub body. This being the case I’m assuming I only use the provided shimano spacer, is this correct?

What cassette size?
Just use one spacer. That cassette is designed to fit on a ten speed free hub and includes a spacer for eleven speed ones.
Ammmm. From my experience, those 11-12 speed freehub bodies are tricky. They tend to be bigger than standard 11s road cassettes. However not completely to spec. Considering that 11 speed mtb cassettes (shimano spec) are the same width as a 10 speed road spec.(meaning they require a 1.85mm spacer on a road 11s freehub). So as usually it depends. If you intend to mount an 11s (105 – ultegra – duraace) cassette you’ll need a 1.85 spacer behind them. And if your intentions are 11 speed mtb cassette (slx – xt – xtr) cassette you’ll need a 9s shimano spacer (about 2.5mm)
