Just wondering if anyone knows anything about Cilo bikes and their quality/reputation as I don’t see much online about them. I’d be purchasing this as my girlfirends first bike to get her out riding with me 🤣. We’d mainly be street riding w/ a good amount of hills and very light gravel.
Here is the sellers discription on CL:
Vintage steel Cilo bike handmade in Switzerland (circa 1984) of Columbus tubing for sale. The bike is in very good condition and was just tuned with new Continental 28mm tires, cable housing and bar tape. It shifts, brakes and rides very well: quick and agile with the smoothness of steel. It also looks nice in the sun with light blue metallic paint and the chrome fork. With a seat tube of 53.5cm (center to center), a 54.5cm (ctc) top tube and a 31″ standover height, this is a medium sized bike, probably best for someone around 5-7″ to 5-10″ or so.

If it was my size I’d grab it in a heartbeat for urban commuting @ $250. The only real question mark would be the threading on the headset and/or bottom bracket (British, Italian, french/swiss?) but that wouldn’t stop me–what a cool bike.
Sidenote: this probably wouldn’t make the best gravel bike, the clearances around the brakes and tires are pretty tight. Also unless your girlfriend is pretty tall or has long arms that top tube may be a little long. Also if she lacks experience riding downtube shifters can be tough, especially for somewhere with lots of hills and shifting, you may be better off with an integrated setup and more modern gearing–but that’s totally subjective.
