My old bike, a 21 Rocky Mountain Soul 10 which I would like to make into a somewhat capable commuter. Already got rid of the square taper bb for sram dub and sx cranks ( 32t x-sync ring ), and fitted microshift acolyte derailleur/shifter and a 11-42t cassette. Thing pedals great but the tires hardly roll and the fork hardly works, any ideas?
Need to do a break bleed and throw on some wider bars as well.

Do you need the fork to work for commuting? What’s your commute like? What do you want to achieve?

As for the tyres: At least the Schwalbe Tough Tom on the front has super high rolling resistance, basically *any* other tyre will roll better.

  2. Wider bars aren’t going to help you on a commute and depending how much city commuting you have could be a detriment.

Change the tires to some slicks, get a rigid fork and call it a day. It isn’t going to be the greatest commuter no matter what you do.
