Today’s video focusses on sole surviving LNER A2 Class Pacific 4-6-2, No. 60532 Blue Peter being tested at the Severn Valley Railway! With the green shoots of spring appearing and the weather slightly improving, some steam footage would always be welcome and this did not disappoint! It’s become a certainty in the last few years that every LSL locomotive due to go mainline will be tested at the beautiful Severn Valley Railway between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, with the ex- FGW and ex – Caledonian Sleeper Mk3 coaches (compatible with the air braked locomotives that LSL operate) before hauling mainline railtours. Last week, the A2, newly overhauled and well restored from Crewe Works, arrived at the SVR for light & loaded test runs as well as some mileage accumulation, and I ventured out to see the loaded ones on Tuesday and Wednesday. There were also normal services running on those days, hauled by GWR Hall Class 4930 Hagley Hall and BR Standard 4 Class 75069. This also constitutes the first time I’ve ever seen 60532!
We begin with some shots I took of 60532 on Tuesday afternoon at Bridgnorth. Then we go to Crossing Cottage where I began the day after taking the 125 bus from Kidderminster that morning, where 4930 is seen passing by. After that I moved into the field to see 60532 with her unique chime whistle steaming up Eardington Bank! After this I was meant to take the 125 bus back to Bewdley but the driver drove straight past us instead so I had to do something different, that being 75069 at Little Rock and 60532 powering away from the 5mph restriction through Sterns at Hay Bridge, which was an awesome show! A very kind gentleman offered to take me to Bridgnorth to avoid bus issues and I took the 125 back to Kidderminster. The next day I took a train and my bike back out to Kidderminster, where I set up at Tenbury Wall for 60532’s first run. I then moved to the Rifle Range for 4930 to go romping up Foley Park Bank toward the tunnel. After that I headed home!
Thank you to all who made this video possible, to WMR, the SVR, 60532 and her crew, the bus (except the one that didn’t stop lol) and to my company @blackcountrysteamvideos8021, @LiamsLocos, @MarshSteamVideosTM, @TheSouthernerYTChannel and @danielstrainsukofficial9133 among others! I hope you enjoy as I did.
