Noticed that my wifes Marin Larkspur is suddenly quite hard to pedal backwards. Took the chain of and it is obviously hard to pedal forwards too. Seems like the crank as become tighter. Video is comparing my Surly to the Marin. When i unscrew the part marked with a red circle the pedaling become easier. Is this the fix for this or should that part me tightly screwed down?
Pedaling is hard – crank seems stuck?

The 2 little hex screws on your crank aren’t tight enough. Take that screw you’ve circled out, fit the crank by hand, torque up those 2 screws on the crank and refit the centre bolt you’ve circled. It doesn’t need to be super tight, it’s a dust cap more than anything else.
It might be the preload adjustment. You need a little tool to adjust preload on the shimano cranks.
If it works, go with it. Depends on how old it is, but you might need to clean out and repack your bearings. You don’t have to do it if you feel it’s too new for that… Or you just don’t want to lol
