My Garneau commuting shoe has become very loose on the pedal. They click in and out fine so I don’t think it’s the cleat that’s worn or the pedal tension loosening off. Looking at the bottom of the shoe there’s a significant gouge under the back of the cleat. Would this account for the wobbliness of the shoe when peddling? It’s like having much too much float on one foot.

    I think you’re right that it’s the gouge causing the problem, though it’s hard to tell how worn the cleat is from that angle.

    Crank Brothers pedals are notorious for damaging shoes in that way, to the point that they make metal shields to protect your shoes. You could try fitting them here.
