  1. Urban zones in the US you cant in most cases, cycle to work or do some errand . Due to the distance you would have to cover.

  2. Wow 17+ million people on 41,5 km2 T_T
I think you forgot a few zeroes there mate. That population density is nearly impossible.

  3. Extremely well designed, because all the godly good designs fell from a students boekentas over Holland while the heavenly son of God was on his way home from school!!!

  4. There is one HUGE aspect that your are forgetting to compare to other cities/countries. The Netherlands is one of the FLATTEST countries in the world. The highest elevation in the country is 322m above sea level.. Barcelona alone has an elevation difference of 522m from lowest to highest point in ONE city…. Imagine going up and down in San Fran, you would have to be an olympic athlete to conquer those elevation differences

  5. This could theoretically apply to American cities, yes, but the problem of how huge the American countryside is and the great distances between towns (which can often be the distance of half of the entire country of the Netherlands) makes bike transport very circumstantial.
That being said, the cities absolutely could benefit from Dutch style bike infrastructure

  6. The design of our country might be great, but believe me, it’s born from necessity, because we don’t have a choice with the population density these days, we actually never had a choice, but we make it work, and to be honest, if you are born here you don’t know better… luckily we are not that difficult minded, but we are painfully to the point without considering someone’s feelings, it’s not because we want to hurt you, it’s meant to make you aware and stronger, honesty will always win🤘🏽

  7. As a Dutch guy living in Switzerland I miss the cycling. Although Switzerland has some good bikepaths, and cars do take care, it is not the same bikeculture as you have in the Netherlands, where you praticaly grow up with a bike and it is like a second nature to use it. However public transport is even better in Switzerland with lightrail (sneltram ) even in the smaller towns.

  8. The Netherlans is closer by a civil war than the world think. 3 milion people can not feed them selfs or they children. It is keeping up apearence. Docters without borders and red cross active in The Netherlands. Under the skin is Holland dying. course very bad administration.

  9. One thing that is less than stellar in the NL is that whenever you take a train it's usually impossible to get a bike for the final few kms to your destination. I tried multiple times to get an OV (=rental) bike in that huge bike garage at Utrecht Central Station, but after 09:00 you can just forget about it. Outside of the big cities it's even worse: no OV bikes and no buses

  10. are you mad? how can be Netherlands insanely well designed, one impact in to ocean nad it will be erased by waves.. . next Atlantida

  11. The comparison with Miami makes me wonder: do I prefer a big house, garden and a car or an apartment and a bicycle ? 😅😅😅

  12. I have to know: why would you write the bikes per capita for the Netherlands using a period to delimit the fractional part of the number, but switch to using a COMMA for the U.S. statistic? We use the period here in the states too, ya know.

  13. Population density in the Netherlands appears to be highly centralized in a handful of areas. As such, they do not grapple with the challenges faced by countries with far greater distributions of population.

  14. I love the cycling culture of NL but I can’t say it’s necessarily something that can just be replicated in other countries. NL is a geographic anomaly. I live in Wales and even if they installed cycle lanes tomorrow, a lot of the people are going to avoid cycling here because of the constant hills and troughs. It’s great for people who see cycling as a sport and enjoy the challenging hills but normal commuters do not want to turn up at work sweating every morning. E-bikes could go a long way to improving that though.

  15. Im from the UK but I've lived in the Netherlands almost my entire life. Everything you explained in this video is absolutely true, and it made me reappreciate the everyday things I took for granted. Thank you!

  16. You do have to take into consideration as well that the netherlands is quite a generally flat terrain, if u were to cycle everywhere say in Scotland there would be more hills

  17. It’s like watching a World Economic Forum ad. “You will own nothing and you will be happy”. Enjoy biking everywhere within 15minutes, having no car, no yard and sharing a wall with neighbors. I’ll pass.
