Love the paint job, but I’d get and repaint a 1988-1990 peugeot bike to better match the 405 Turbo 16:)

Nice job. Is that spray painted? I would definitely replace that “AVA” stem. If it is 22.0 mm steerer tube ID, then sand a JIS 22.2 mm stem to fit. If the lower end snaps, there is zero steering. When taken out, check it for cracks!

Sacrilege? Far from it! Unless they’re absolutely pristine, these entry level bikes aren’t worth preserving or doing a full restoration. Paint or cut’em up however you please, there are millions of them!
I think it looks great. I’d keep my eyes peeled for a decent set of used, aluminum wheels to replace the steel hoops and swap out the cockpit & other parts (Seatpost, stem, bars, crank & headset) for black as you can find them.
