Hi folks!
I’m looking for my first “real” bike, since I haven’t ridden one since I was a child.

At the time I didn’t really care about components or types, just wanted to ride.

Now when looking at what to buy, I’m overwhelmed with the different configurations and options.

I’ve determined that I need a hybrid bike, as I plan to mostly ride in the city, and maybe some gravel roads. My buddy said that disc brakes are overrated and it’s better to look at a better group set rather than disc brakes.

I’m based in Lithuania. Budget is around 600 €
Here are the two options I’m looking at:

Website lists 999, but there’s a deal for 650 at a Lithuanian bike shop.

Appreciate any tips, thanks!

In my opinion, if there are any bike components that are appropriately rated, it’s disc brakes.

The Ghost is the bike I would choose. The groupset on the Virtex might be slightly better, but I’d gladly sacrifice 3 speeds for disc brakes at the same price.
