Got a second hand bike which groupset was upgraded at some point to 105 11S, but noticed today that the casette was missing a cog, contacted the seller and he said he had to remove one in order to fit the freehub, hub is a Hope pro Ill, freehub body unknown (but doesnt fit standard shimano 11s by the looks of it) , My understanding is that as the spacing is not perfect the shifting will never be on point on all 10 cogs… so wondering what solutions I have here… new freehub body? will i need to redish the wheel if I do that?

  1. You need a [Shimano 11-34 cassette (HG800-11)](https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/ultegra-r8000/CS-HG800-11.html) which supports narrower, 10-speed freehub bodies. It’s effectively a MTB 11 speed cassette branded as Ultegra, which supports the same freehub width as 10 speed MTB. This is different to all of the other Shimano road 11 speed cassettes which need a slightly wider freehub body. Check to make sure your mech has enough capacity to support this wide-range cassette – needs to be a GS version.

  2. As long as the shifter and derailleur were upgraded to 11s, the shift spacing/indexing will be accurate. My question would be whether or not the derailleur limiting adjustments allow you to lock an entire cog out of the range. If so, it will probably shift fine if everything is adjusted properly, like the B-gap. If you change your the hub, you could add that gear back.

  3. The spacing between first and second cog is also wrong. Of course you can make a 10sp cassette out of an 11sp. You ditch the smallest cog. The spacing will stay correct and the limit screw on the derrailleur keeps it safe

  4. shifting is ok going down (big to small, with a ghost click at the end) but going up gets stucked clunking and needs two shifts up to compensate that weird extra space between those cogs…
