The route to get there and back was absolutely awesome though. There was a fair bit of asphalt, as usual, but the gravel was perfect! There was only one or two shitty sections where the forest service had savaged the trails and you had to ride in muddy tractor tracks, but otherwise it was a gravel paradise. Super happy I finally did this route!

Used to live in Germany for 7 years and I must say, being able to do this kind of rides is something I miss greatly. It’s amazing how many areas you can explore like this.

Just finished this loop today at [75km and 1,200m of climbing](https://brouter.de/brouter-web/#map=14/48.9999/8.6101/standard,route-quality&lonlats=8.469747,48.999062;8.490918,49.007713;8.56442,49.006414;8.603025,49.014835;8.660596,49.008543;8.668907,49.018311;8.681907,49.015351;8.704621,49.025549;8.740904,49.015458;8.760581,49.024495;8.795152,49.00735;8.824433,49.003532;8.813481,49.000397;8.81676,48.993936;8.781516,48.988327;8.764789,48.974373;8.724474,48.972069;8.652738,48.989579;8.649253,49.0034;8.638859,49.006654;8.62883,49.006124;8.632906,49.001582;8.624241,48.995885;8.602374,49.002018;8.577034,48.990905;8.552597,48.994698;8.508049,48.980345;8.469747,48.999062)! I visited the Maulbronn monastery which is a UNESCO world heritage site, and with good reason! The buildings are absolutely gorgeous, and it’s an amazing place to visit. Legend has it that this is where the German recipe of “[Maultaschen](https://www.chefkoch.de/rezepte/50961017994002/Schwaebische-Maultaschen.html)” was “invented”. The story is that the monks wanted to “hide” the fact that they were eating meat from God, so they wrapped the meat in dough so God wouldn’t see it (lol). But regardless, a really great recipe was born!
