    The Loire Valley and Jura Mountains // World Bicycle Touring Episode 4



    The Loire Valley was a huge highlight of our time touring in France – wonderful bike paths took us past incredible chateaux and lots of beautiful farmland. From the Loire Valley, we took some French cycling routes to travel to the Jura Mountains and on to Switzerland. We rode La Loire à Vélo, EuroVelo 6, and the Grande Traversée du Jura à Vélo.

    We’re Andrew and Jenny. We sold all our stuff, built our bicycles, and headed out on an around the world bicycle tour in May of 2021. We started our European tour in Paris, and we’re currently in the Balkans.

      The standout difference between cathedrale in France and Italy – the Italian ones always have the most amazing coloured or gold mosaic tiling all over the ceilings. Many are just spectacular.

      I was in the public library and the librarian asked me if I wanted to look at some old issues of Bicycling Magazine they found in the basement.
      I was looking at the Winter 1976/77 issue . Within it is an article about a guy who purchased one of the very first Treks built in the fabled barn- 1975.
      It was a emerald green touring bike made with Reynolds 531 tubing. It had Huret derailleurs and shifters, Atom freewheel, TA cranks, Stronglight headset, Mafac cantilever brakes, Brooks saddle… He took it touring in France the following year. He was touring in the Burgundy region and he stopped at a bike shop to get some water and directions. The mechanic came out and was admiring the bike. Upon his examination he pointed to the headset and said in broken English, "Too-loose la Trek."

      Please don't come to england, you will be told a load of lies about Romans and Normans, all of which is drivel. Everything on british soil was built by the british, no one else, we don't speak Italian.
      Romans did try to invade, twice, we sent 'em packing obviously.
