I am new to biking and never had high-end bikes since my Walmart-bike days.
I want to get a really really good bike without spending $5k!.
I found a good deal on the 2022 Kona Mahuna, local highly reputable local bike store, for $770 instead of $1200 MSRP.
Is this a good bike? any concerns? Will the ownership experience be similar to the very high end bikes? I will never take to mountains, am just a normal guy cruising around time, lakes, etc.
By the way am doing all of this for a rehab of a PCL high-grade tear : (

They are solid at that price and will be a great improvement. Had one as my first real mtb so maybe I’m biased. Good stuff though.
If you’re mostly cruising around you could look into gravel bikes or city style hybrids too.
It’s a solid bike and given you’re objective and trails you’ll be riding, it’s perfect. I’ve always liked Kona and they have good customer (and dealer) support.
As far as a “really, really good bike” I honestly wouldn’t worry about that. What’s good for one person might not be good for another, and vice versa. There’s a point where you reach diminishing returns, and I’d say for most brands it’s right around that $5k mark.
That said, you can’t really compare a $1,200 bike with a $12,000 one, just like you can’t compare a Civic to a Ferrari. They’ll both get you from point A to point B though, and there’s no point in getting a Ferrari when the speed limit is 25mph if you get what I mean.
Good luck!
