Continuing our cycle journey up the River Rhine on EV 15 entering the Alsace region of France. We have a rest day in the beautiful city of Strasbourg before continuing along the relaxing Rhon au Rhin canal path towards the Swiss city of Basel. We meet up with some friends and ride together through pretty Swiss towns, and by the Rhine Falls ending up on the north shore of Untersee (the smaller of the two lakes that make up Lake Constance).
Note that from just north of Basel, EV 15 overlaps with EV 6 as far as Lake Constance.
Useful Resources:
For EuroVelo 15 we used the Cicerone book “The Rhine Cycle Route” by Mike Wells and found it very useful. It has detailed maps and interesting background information too. The maps were particularly useful when the trail signage wasn’t enough. I have used some of these maps in this video series.
In addition, for EuroVelo 6 we used “EuroVelo 6 (Basel – Budapest) 7 maps 1:100 000 (English, French and German Edition)”, a set of very useful maps that show points of interest and campgrounds. Available online Amazon and other book stores.
The official EuroVelo website is another handy resource of course, and for those using GPS navigation, it provides gpx files for the various routes. https://en.eurovelo.com/#routes-and-countries
For navigation, we did not use any high-tech GPS systems, relying instead on route signage, the book “The Rhine Cycle Route” (Kindle version) and a useful free overview map of EV 15 that I picked up in a tourist office. For other route-finding to campgrounds, grocery shops, etc, we used the Maps.Me phone application which you can use offline.
We did not have local phone sim cards so our use of Google maps and other online resources was limited to when we had wifi access at campgrounds, grocery shops and restaurants.

Great videos, thx for sharing!! I’m looking at some Velo routes in France for this May and your travels have been so inspirational! I have some questions…gear/clothing, bike spares, camping site resources, camera gear et! Can I email or DM somehow? Thx again and keep up the great videos. You guys are truly living life and not just spectating ❤
Glad to see you popped into my adapted country – Switzerland. Irish by birth, Swiss by choice 😉
I have enjoyed your lovely relaxed commentary. Thankyou for this charming video.

Wow great trip we are doing a loop around Holland next week starting in the hook of Holland
Hi, Enjoying your cycle through Europe. Looking forward to the following episodes. Keep up the great work!
Hi, also inspired by your beautiful production. Such credit to you both. I'm only on the 4th episode. I love the way you briefly summarize the trip at the beginning of each episode. 'm in melbourne and seriously considering packing a duffle and my birdy and taking off . I notice you stay in paid camps and motels. Is there much scope for free camping along the route?
Loving your trip so far. What Panniers are on your rear? would you use something different or do you like them?
