DBR Vertex – I got this bike and swear that the previous guy put some odd crank on it. My research says it takes a Shimano Deore M650. Is there a crank that I could get that would be equivalent (newer) or better for this bike? I’d rather have more teeth than less. Has square bottom bracket.

You can put anything you want on there. Just make sure your derailleurs have the capacity to deal with the teeth of the chain rings. Seriously though, what’s bothering you about it?
That crank is not odd, rather it is the normal way of things for this kind of bike. Also i bet a bottle of beer on a lx FC-M560 or FC-M563.
A set of 110mm or 94mm Chainrings is around 100€+, a stronglight impact triple is 85€ (i don´t know wether that has a proper offset for a mtb) and you have to play a game of spindlelength.
Yes, that is definitely a replacement crankset. The owner also installed a [1990s chain tensioner gizmo.](https://www.ebay.com/itm/266560999419?)
If you want to keep the drivetrain 3x, the correct crankset would be something like a 42/32/22
What year do you think this bike is?
Looks peachy-keen to me except for theat spring tensioner thingy which should be melted down in the hottest fire possible. Does it pedal and shift properly? If so, rock on. If not, maybe a chain and cassette replacement.
More teeth on the front chainring? Seems like you are riding flat pavement possibly. In this case, get a different bike maybe?
