Hi, I’m trying to get into mountain biking and have been scouring FB marketplace for used bikes since I don’t want to drop a bunch of money and end up not liking the sport (though I’m 90% sure I’ll love it). I’ve done a lot of research, but with used bikes I’m struggling to determine if they’re worth the cost/value people put on them.

Came across this Trek XC 6, it does come with accessories as well (see description in photo) so assuming that might play into the price. Just not sure if this is worth the price for a newbie/ first bike to get into MTB, so I would appreciate any opinions and insights! I’m in the PNW (US) btw, so I feel like bikes out here might be a bit more expensive since it’s a popular place for biking in general.

Do you know if the bike fits your correctly? Also what type of riding are you planing on doing ?

From what I can tell, the X cal 6 was last made in 2015, maybe 2016. Probably not worth the $650, especially if you don’t want to clip in. The helmet might be nice, assuming it fits, hasn’t been crashed in, and isn’t so old that the foam is getting brittle.

I think you can do better. Any used Rangefinders?

The new Marlin 5 Gen 3 looks pretty good and will probably be about $650 on Trek’s upcoming spring sale. Same price, mostly better build, and comes with warranties.
