  1. Does it bother you? remove it. Do you care about the the style-police? remove it. Do you care about a few grams more (pffft, weight weenies… grow some legs)? remove it. Do you not care? leave it on.

    It’s purpose is to prevent the chain from falling between spokes and cassette. (as a side effect, it may prevent lubricant to conatimate the brake rotor? No idea). Apparently it’s required that bikes sold in the US have that part installed. That never happened to me on any bike, I’ve been riding MTB and road for over 30 years.

    Yeah it really looks dorky. It makes a bike look like it came from walmart.

    Once you’re absolutely sure the rear derailleur is properly tuned. And your chain will not fall off and destroy your spokes, then you can remove it.

    It hurts nothing to keep it on, but just looks silly.

    The dork disk! It’s just there due to gov regulations for bike sales. No need to keep it.
