When bolted into the drop-outs, the mechanism all closes neatly together and pedals as efficiently as ever. My concern is I have never seen this hub, nor any hub for that matter, do this. Hub is approx 18 months old, has seen less than average use.
Mind the muck please, I’ve just unpacked this bike from storage and admittedly, could have put it away cleaner.
Any suggestions or advice on the hub is very much appreciated.
Edit: LBS is very far from where I live, thus I’m coming here first.
Hope Pro 4 rear hub has come loose from the splines housing? (for want of a better description).

[There’s just a little friction holding it all together](https://www.hopetech.com/_repository/1/documents/Pro-4-Rear-Hub-Assembly.pdf). You might have lost the little o-ring that goes under the endcap, or it fell apart.
This happens if you pull the freehub. Should not happen on its own.
The solution is to use a falt headed screw driver to press the green plastic seal on usually this requires rmrival of cassette or cog, but you got lots of room maybe you can manage without doing that.
But a 5ool for this exists, to make the job easy, but that requires removal of cassette or cog.
But your freehub is dirt, and loos to be dirt inside, so you need to do a service of the mechanism. I see metal shavings on the inside eof the freehub, where the pawls and springs sit, maybe it’s animal hair, but maybe not. But the edges where they sit look chewed up. This is a bad sign, this needs to be inspected ASAP.
Make sure there’s no sand and dirt inside, there looks to be. Good do do it while you are at it anyway.
These hubs ar e long lasting, if you maintain them properly. If not you can destroy any hub.
