I have this 27.5 Jamis Komodo hardtail with a lockout fork 1×10 speed. Is it viable to get a new wheel set with slick commuter tires? I don’t do heavy trial riding anyway.

I will be commuting 4 days a week, one way 3.5m with 1 mile of moderate hills on the return trip.

Or should I just get a cheap old MTB with a rigid fork? So two bikes or one bike with 2 wheel sets. 95% of my rides will be on asphalt.

I’ve been commuting with a hardtail mtb for over a decade, it’s the best when you don’t have the greatest biking infrastructure!

That bike is nice as fuck to be locking up on the street. I’d get a beater imo

I think finding an older beater with less aggressive wheels is probably the more cost-effective move here. New wheels and tires and rotors and a cassette is gonna be more than an older bike off Craigslist/FB market.
