Hey, first time setting up derailleur cables and housing on my own. These cables seem kind of long to me, but before cutting them shorter I just wanted to double check. Picture 1: straight Picture 2: full right turn Picture 3: full left turn.
I heard somewhere that they need to be as short as possible while allowing a full left/right turn. According to that, should I chop them ~3cm shorter?
Also, any tips on how to prevent the cable from rubbing against the fork paint? Previous routing left scrubbed paint and this one would likely continue doing so.

For one, have them criss cross over the head tube. That won’t help you much, but some. And if you really are concerned it’s an easy fix to cut back the housing and cable
My tip here is that if you rotate the handlebars all the way until your handlebars hit the frame (both ways) and you have a lot of leftover housing, thats where you can begin trimming.
Also its good practice for the future to keep the original housing you replaced and just measure the new housing to match, that way you don’t need to go through this again.

I left mine a little long on my last build…it’s been helpful when I’ve used a handlebar bag.
