Saw that Specialized is having a sale on some mountain bike shoes. Figured it’s time to upgrade from my Vans. My only concern is that they have this longitudinal arch feature. How is that for flat footers? I had a pair of running shoes that had an elevated arch and those made my feet so swollen while running. I know different sport but just want to see how everyone feels about the longitudinal arch.

Second question, I do more all mountain type trails. Should I get the Roost or DH shoes? What is the big difference in feel?

I have the Roost in black. I don’t care for the look of them since I usually wear shorts while out riding around, but they were comfortable and fit when I was facing a world of way too tight shoes and wrong sizes.

This is my first pair of mtb specific shoes so I can’t go into the pros and cons, but they grip the pedals great and provide decent support overall. Oh and they look resplendent with white socks and pale legs so there’s that.

My arches have fallen pretty badly from my career. I have Orthotics to combat the fallen arches. I rock the 2F0 Roosts. I wear them without the orthos.

Comfy AF. 8 hrs of Park Laps? A Breeze. A full day out on an adventure in the wilds? No Bother.

YMMV, but as a near flat footer who needs orthotics in day to day footwear, I find they work well for me.

  3. I have flat feet. I have wide AF duck feet. 2FO Roosts are the best shoes hands down for us.
