I had a big text to add to this post but it wont upload with the video?? Does anyone like to push their gravel (ok, mine is a cyclocross bike, but that’s splitting hairs) into MTB territory? What’s the biggest/scariest thing you shouldn’t have done on drop bars? I just sold my dirt jumper, but realised my gravel bike is really fun to fling around!

I did see on the r/MTB page, a guy hit a big drop on his gravel bike, it was very impressive. Most people were very supportive, but were one or two negative comments. I personally hate tribalism in cycling. As long as your having fun, doesn’t matter what bike your on! I have found there can be a minority who are more attached to the ‘vehicle’ than just enjoying seeing other people have fun/shred (e.g. R-Willy doing triple back flips on his scooter, while the skaters hate on him).

I’d love to find a crew who shred on gravel bikes! Currently my MTB friends are MTB purists, and my gravel friends like to keep it chill (which is cool!). There is an awesome middle ground too IMO.

I like to do the mtb sections that I can link with smaller hops and smoother landings. However, as of late my carbon fork has an outer wall crack that has not materialized in 500+ miles, so I’m staying away. Maybe sending is not the worst decision

    Extremely keen

Although I haven’t managed any decent sized jumps yet, and the local pump tracks are really for kids so have pretty small mounds anyway.

But I have found some speed humps and dropoffs on my local road loops that can be fun to fly off >50kph

  4. I sometimes go on [flowy single tracks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRfSHm8bX8A) and hiking trails. I can manage technical trails like rocks or roots but not jumps or drops. As much as I would want some air, I want my gravel/commuter bike to last long so I don’t expose it to hard impacts. I’d need at least a dedicated hard tail for that.

It’s fun to just cruise around over pavement or hard pack and then hit some random (bike ???) trail along the way.

  5. Yes. I often hit lots of green and blue mtb trails on my gravel bike. Hit some of the more mellow jumps and drops. All fun stuff.

  6. I have a set of 650 wheels with 2” tires and a dropper just for this type of fun.

  7. Yup. My gravel bike is 650b x 48 and drop bar MTB is 27.5 x 2.5. Both hit singletrack and features on the regular. Great training for cyclocross plus opportunities for free flight and first aid when you launch over the bars. Took three flights before I could consistently hit gap jumps on drops 😂

Don’t feel bad about pushing your bike. Keep playing in the pump track and soon you’ll be able to ride on the big boy trail.
