Hello and welcome back to the channel folks! Hope you’re all well? In this video I am out for the final endurance training ride in the current 4 week block. Looking to get everything out of the legs and above all, enjoy myself. This one didn’t disappoint, the road always provides… The weather was crazy, hail storm, double rainbows, being out in the elements always makes for an exciting ride. See you on the next one!

Why I love endurance riding if you ride long enough the road provides something ah it’s hail ah bloody hell are you right is oh yeah I am Download nice through the mud good morning welcome back to the channel and another Ultra cycling related video if this is your first visit my name’s Andy I’m an ultra cyclist on the south coast of the UK the videos I make are about Ultra cycling training and Adventures so if you have

Endurance goals of your own subscribe and follow along sure there’ll be something in there for you or hopefully you teach me Something it’s actually a pretty nice day to be out today although the wind’s pretty brutal from the West at the moment I’m riding East you can probably tell from the numbers is it’s quite easy going so there’s little sprinklings of rain wind’s quite cold the rain’s helping to chill me right off sus

Bit but it is sunny so I can’t complain on some nice quiet roads now been quite busy all the way out look at that summer is coming so the plan for today’s ride is essentially take care of business get the training plan finished for another 4-we block if you are a fairly recent

Subscriber and you may not know my training Works in four-week blocks and this ride is the end of the last hard week I do three weeks of pretty tough training and then one week of easy to get the fatigue all off this is my last endurance ride before I take a week to

Come back to reality essentially this ride is like the last hour of last week’s ride just getting everything out of the legs exhausting myself and the most training effect possible if you did much the last one I’ll say go back and watch it that was a great ride and a bit of a

Taster of what’s to come when summer really hits once I’m on the summer bike and the days are a bit longer that’s the sort of thing I’m going to doing most weekends what I will say though is I’m absolutely knackered which is good not the kind of extreme fatigue I had

Recently but about right where I am in this four- we block I should be Knackered today is Saturday though and I normally ride Endurance on Sundays it just means that one less day recovery since my threshold session on Thursday I’ve been increasing those too to 2 hours so half an hour warm up a full hour at threshold heart rate and then a half an hour cool down

Outside so that’s add into the fatigue too generally feeling pretty good but if you remove one day’s recovery at the end of the four-way block it all adds up rout wise today not really sure how far I’m going to go to be honest something like 80 100 miles roughly and

Pretty much Foot Loose Fancy free in terms of Route I’ve not planned anything so I’m just heading out on roads I know roads I really enjoy all around my local area right now I’ve just gone through the city of Chester in the county of Sussex through the back to the Goodwood

Estate the little entrance into the golf course where you can ride all through past the house it’s beautiful if it’s open so I’m going to ride through there up and over Haka into the South Downs into the hills all the way across the ridge towards the city of wind

Winchester turn South all the way along there I’ll have a a monster headwind so I’m not looking forward to that then turn South towards the coast with a monster tailwind and I am looking forward to that let’s do it finish this training block off of a solid Century hopefully

And finish my legs off for a week’s Rest We’re in Goodwood is absolutely beautiful in this place it’s a shame it’s more often than not close to the public it’s gorgeous while I’m in here right by good W house uh I know the route of the world famous Hill Climb I’d be ashamed to not have a go

With it wouldn’t it and the start Line’s just over here might have a go that’s the start line happened to know I came here ages ago and had a tour think those red bricks were imported from a famous racetrack somewhere let’s give it a go why the hell not A Oh A it’s lovely riding through there I would say if you’re from around this way don’t go through with the gates are closed when they’re open you can generally ride through and no issues I’ve asked people working there a few times and there’s no issue riding through so just don’t go

Around any locked Gates the hill climb just a bit of fun really why not it’s quite a famous course and a pretty good climb just a shame is closed off half the time Really now you know Goodwood is a real place not just what you get when you take those little blue Tablets a Who says the South Coast can’t be picturesque this is gorgeous it’s one of the most picturesque Roots around my part of the South Downs that said I just turned into the wind and it’s quite brutal today I’m 25 mph maybe a bit more it’s sound too much but I’ve

Pushing into this now for about the next hour hour and a half to get my head down for a bit you might not be able to hear me for a little while good training but so destroying N So far not so bad probably half the headwind de with now through Petersfield about to climb up B Hill the highest point in the South Downs along the side of that and then across old Winchester Hill which is going to be the most exposed part straight into the

Headwind but once that’s done there’ll be a lovely Tailwind all along the coast home Tailwind doesn’t get enough credit everyone complains about the headwind unless you rod in a straight line you got a Tailwind yeah I’m looking forward to that first of all let’s go climb up there in case you

Had noticed spraining again Oh look at that rain I’m about to get wet oh dear ah it’s hail ah ow wow that stin bloody hell okay I’m stopping that really hurt look can get a fat lip but I wasn’t expecting that the forecast was for a little bit of rain

Maybe like a tiny bit I’ve got a rain coat but can’t be bothered with that the showers have been really light but I saw that cloud coming really dark did not expect that my lips and my ears got hammered and just like that beautiful sunshine again wish the wind would ease off though Aren’t I the lucky one the highest most exposed part of the whole route look at a hail storm in all honesty that’s a highlight of the ride so far great fun this why I love endurance riding so much if you ride long enough the road provides something right now I actually

Don’t know where I am really I know roughly where I’m heading I don’t know exactly where this road goes so let’s see can’t go that far Wrong well if it wasn’t in a good mood already and I was that’s the headwind all done all dealt with all the way home is a Tailwind however the weather is not looking that great every direction around me except the direction I’m heading is very great

Looks like ring God’s got in for me today no I’m not taking any chances on this one literally every direction I’m about to get hounded I Think this is some pretty crazy weather today as that rolled in I watched the temperature drop on my Garin from 11 C to 4 C crazy my fingers are pretty numb now it’s starting to go back up back in pouth and that was such a good ride no plans No Agenda

Just riding based on feeli going wherever I fancied getting rained on a lot it’s so good one of the best rides I’ve had for quite a long time actually funnily enough might be the Sun a lot of sun around the rain and the hail we definitely got the job done that’s for

Sure I just stopped at a traffic light and felt like instantly needed a nap so sufficiently exhausted and now for a rest week arguably the most important part of a training plan and one that I’ve neglected recently actually so I’m going to take some rest do some ride still and still

Do a bit of training and get this bike summer ready because in 2 weeks the clocks change longer evenings longer rides cannot wait and if you watch until this point and really thank you I’m not just saying that these take a really long time to make but I love doing the

Rides and enjoy making the videos the fact that some of you really enjoy watching them I really love that if you made it this far then drop a bike Emoji or something in the comments so I know who does be interested to see anyway hope you all have a good week I’ll see

You on the next one oh

  1. …what a ride,- it`s always just satisfying rising the mood through bad weather and weatherchanges, really loved this one. I just know to well. I am back on again as well, needed that break so much, I didn`t realize;- perfomancewise got to a new level, thanks to You Andy for your reminder, You really helped! Keep on the lead my friend, I`ll follow;- just "only" a year behind!

  2. I cycled along old Winchester hill last night, but in the opposite direction. The clouds looked menacing, but thankfully it didn’t rain. I love it up there.

  3. One of the things I like the most about my endurance rides is how much I feel like I've lived afterwards. A century can feel like I've lived a week in a day, a double-century even moreso.

  4. Really like your videos, and of course, I always watch to the end!
I know those roads well ,as I'm local. Beautiful!
I'm training for my 1st ultra (Panceltic), so am interested to see what training you're doing . I'm a new subscriber😊🥶🥶🌈⛈⛈🌦🌧❄

  5. Great watch. It’s encouraging me to start going out longer, managed just over 200km in one ride for the first time this week thanks to watching your videos.

  6. 🚴🚴, another great watch Andy. You’re right about the South of the Uk having very picturesque places to ride, to be fair I think the UK with good weather is just lovely for riding around anywhere. 👍👍

  7. Great video Andy, looks like you had all 4 seasons in that ride. looking forward to those longer rides now and hopefully plenty of sunshine 🌞

  8. Great Video, after being off last with 2 back injuries and prostate operation. I have been struggling to get my fitness back. Your videos have me great pointers. Thank you

  9. Hey Andy! I love your videos and I happened to find your channel after one of the first videos you posted and have been hooked ever since! Would you be interested in making a video on nutrition while cycling? As a fairly new cyclist I have l recently experienced my first “bonk” and was looking for some insight as to what you personally eat while on long cycling trips. Breaks you may take, how often you eat, what you drink/eat, etc. I know there are lots of videos already but I’m interested in your point of view. Thanks!

  10. That was great Andy. Four seasons in one day. Every ride an adventure. That decent topped out at 74kph…! Nice!
    "Like" emoji…👍👍👍

  11. Some hail at the exact moment where you have no immediate availability for shelter….yep! Another classic cycling occurrence….suffering through the rain/hail/wind and then by the end of the ride it is sunny and perfect. I can imagine every cyclist who has ever experienced these items was watching and nodding their head. Of course all those same cyclists will be back out the next day for more of the same! I heard once that 'cycling produces memory loss' ~ if you have ever hammered/suffered up a hill where at the top you would have welcomed a quick demise thinking 'why did I do that?' and then 10 minutes later you were on another similar climb, you have experienced 'cycling memory loss'.

Thanks for all of you continued great content! I absolutely appreciate being able to 'ride along' with you. Each time I watch I am then thinking about my next ride…..

  12. 🚵🏻Hi Andy when it was hailing the other day, it was hailing here too. (I’m in Bournemouth) I was in the house looking out the window thinking “Some poor bloke is out on his bike, miles from home and has got caught in this?” 😁👍🏻🚵🏻🚵🏻🚵🏻
