12 speed Shimano chain… I wondered why my rear mech was dropping gears. I hope the LBS get this on a Shimano warranty! Goodness me. That might have been a few missing teeth! 😂
If you didn’t break and rejoin your chain the old fashion way, this is probably a manufacturing defect.
I’ve seen others post counterfiet shimano chains lately, and I’ve even heard of these coming from bike shops. I wonder if that is a slim possibility?

Shifting under torque is a good way to break a chain in this manner. I was riding with a friend of mine, she weighs all of 110lbs/50kg, and broke her chain as she stood up and shifted to get up a short incline.
I carry a small KMC chain and spare quick link. Did a quick repair and we were on our way.
Look ahead and anticipate shifts. Shift while under low and you’ll never break a chain.
