I am planning to modernize and upgrade my second bike (Specialized Epic Expert from 2013 or 2014) and need your advice.
I rode it today and I am super unhappy with the brake power. Currently there is a Formula R1 installed which had some issues in the past (loosing braking power on longer descends). Moreover I want to switch to a 1×11/12 drivetrain and install a dropper post.
I found a good deal for Magura MT5 set ([https://www.bike-discount.de/en/magura-mt5-disc-brake-set-storm-hc-203/180](https://www.bike-discount.de/en/magura-mt5-disc-brake-set-storm-hc-203/180)) I want to install but I am unsure on which adapter I need. Currently it does not have an adapter in the front and one in the back (PM6″ to F180) – see images.
My questions are:
\- will these brakes be compatible?
\- do I need an adapter for the front and if so, which one?
\- do I need a different adapter for the back as this one is from formula (the disk set comes with 180mm rotor for the back), if so which one?
\- Which kind of drivetrain that doesn’t break the bank could you recommend (< 200€)? I was thinking maybe this, if its compatible: [https://r2-bike.com/SRAM-NX-Eagle-MTB-Gruppe-1×12-DUB-non-Boost-X-SYNC-2-Direct-Mount-Kettenblatt-32-Zaehne-170-mm?iso=DE&gad\_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8J6wBhDXARIsAPo7QA-\_30FyifTcnu7WTWGKx11eGLzVn7NduPWE\_gFf-eX8X5JORc37xMAaAhYWEALw\_wcB](https://r2-bike.com/SRAM-NX-Eagle-MTB-Gruppe-1×12-DUB-non-Boost-X-SYNC-2-Direct-Mount-Kettenblatt-32-Zaehne-170-mm?iso=DE&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8J6wBhDXARIsAPo7QA-_30FyifTcnu7WTWGKx11eGLzVn7NduPWE_gFf-eX8X5JORc37xMAaAhYWEALw_wcB)
\- Do I need anything else for the conversion to 1x drivetrain?
\- Is this dropper post fine? (The seat tube diameter is 30.6mm and there is no internal cable routing – at least I think so) [https://www.bike-discount.de/en/triple-eight-pro-outside-dropper-post](https://www.bike-discount.de/en/triple-eight-pro-outside-dropper-post)
Thanks a lot in advance!

With these maguras you always have to factor in a lever upgrade as they ship with 2 finger levers (why????) So add another 40€ to the price of the set or get some slx 7100 levers for a bit more and build a shigura.
I would advise on getting the correct magura adaptors for the size disc you need, as the calipers might contact other brands adaptors.
I would strongly recommend on not buying sram drivetrains below gx level, even as someone who exclusively runs sram drivetrains. Look for a slx groupset or deore if budget is an issue.
Its a cheap dropper, you cant expect too much from it but it should certainly be enough for a second bike thats not ridden too much.
But: are you sure that sinking ±500€ in a 10 year old bike is a good idea? You could sell it for a few hundred to some kid, put your 500 on top and shop for a modern bike that already comes with 1×12, a dropper and modern geometry. Plenty of deals to be found right now
