You don’t have to spend hundreds to get a folding bike that you can use for an international cycle tour. Second hand folding bikes can be excellent value if you are prepared to do any repairs yourself! Small repairs and replacing any worn out parts can be done with simple tools and these light weight bikes can be stored easily in a cupboard or under a bed.

So you’ve just arrived in a new town and you’ve got your bike your backpack and your tent and you’re looking for a place to spend the night in this video I’m going to show you how to find a good camping spot so that you can spend a

Free night while camping when you’re on your cycle Adventure often on a cycle Adventure you’ll find yourself rolling into a new town that you’ve never seen before and the first thing to do is to find a nice quiet safe spot to sit down and look at the

Map you can learn a lot from looking at a map of a city especially if you’re using Google Maps and using the satellite view so the way I do this is to zoom into the city just enough so that I can see the roads the parks and

All of the neighborhoods as well as the central areas and business districts you can look for anything on the map that you can use as features to navigate such as Rivers Harbors mountains or other landmarks once you have a good rough idea of how the city is laid out you can

Start to figure out where the best neighborhoods might be to pitch your tent or find a good camping spot I like to look for forested areas adjacent to supermarkets and places that I can get supplies when you’ve identified a nice neighborhood you can check it out by riding

Through having a look around and seeing if you can find access to any adjacent Parks a good way to find access to the parks is to have a look on the horizon and look for trees where you see big trees you can often find forested Areas I like to remain hidden when I’m camping out a concept known as stealth camping so I make sure to keep my clothes St and take the reflectors off my bike that way I can’t be spotted coming or going from my campsite once you’ve spotted your area adjacent to a

Park make your way in quickly quietly without attracting too much attention once I’ve reached a goodlooking spot I like to leave my bike and go for a bit of a walk so I can find a nice flat area to pitch my tent I think this spot is too wet down here looks

Good I’ve had campsites in the past that I’ve had to lift my bike over logs and we’re a real pain getting into generally the harder it is to reach the campsite the less chance you’ll be disturbed wow I found a nice flat spot at the basee of these huge

Trees if you are camping underneath trees make sure that there’s no dead branches that will fall on you in the night I think this is a great spot right here I’m right on the edge of a playing field and this is like a forested area just off to one side it’s unlikely that

People will come come down here especially on a weak night but if you happen to be camping out on a cycle tour and it’s a Saturday or Sunday night just be aware people are more active on those nights now it’s time to clear the ground where we’re going to pitch the

Tent I’ve cleared an area here that’s just big enough for me to lie down it doesn’t need to be cleared for the footprint of the whole tent if it’s raining then you should make sure that you’re on higher ground and that the water will run away from your tent and not run

Underneath it cuz that can make you wake up very cold and wet in the night I use this twers Dome Tent it’s very inexpensive it packs down small and it’s light to carry a good rule of thumb is to wait until it gets dark before you

Pitch your tent if you don’t want to be discovered unless you found a great spot where you’re completely hidden away and then go ahead pit your tent rest and enjoy here’s a few of my favorite wild camping spots leave a comment below and let me know Yours Yeah Night

  1. Hey Andy! Awesome videos as always. Is there ever a concern of going too far off the beaten path and getting lost in the woods?

Also! Can you maybe make a video of how you handle keeping clean on your big bike trips? (showering, laundry, etc.)

  2. Nice video, which I would like to add:

    – Buy a tent in natural colour for camouflage. Most tents are either dark green, tan or brown, choose the colour on your environment. Avoid light green, that is high viz. Even in moonlight at night. Also avoid very dark green, that looks like black from a distance, also sticks out.
    – Buy a dome or tunnel shape tent, because it looks like a bush or young tree from a distance.
    – The lower the height of your tent, the better. For example, use two low rise 1-person tents, then one big 2-person tent.
    – The cherry on the cake is to put a camouflage net on top of your. But it is extra weight and bulk to carry around. Especially on a folding bike. Tie the net down, that is does NOT flutter in the wind. That fluttering will attract attention.

When you reached your stealth campsite: Do NOT move or make sounds. Both attract attention. Like Hobocyclist already says in this video, pitch your tent in the dark. Stay low for concealment.

  3. Bro much love you're amazing and for us that have been there or are going threw it just seeing you sir is amazing like a friend from across the way please be healthy sir and study never let the world take you're energy

  4. I'm not sure if this is still being offered by Walmart locations but I used to simply pull up close to where the RV owners were staying & find a spot on the grass & pitch my tent. It was kind of funny since I was having more fun than the RV owners were with less hassle & expense. Many times I was invited for a meal or a beer & was only asked to move one time. I have to try it again next season if it is still offered by Walmart.

  5. I just completed a tour across Florida and had to stealth camp multiple times. Love the advice in this video as it reflects my experiences as well as taught me some new tricks. I use an Amok (a kind of camping hammock) so I just need two trees a suitable distance apart and voila, I am well hidden in most situations.
