I bought an unusually outfitted Decathalon bike today at a junk store. I paid 25 euro, it had quick release axles, the chain was greased, and it had a Brooks saddle on it. Checked the markings on it and it’s (the saddle’s) manufacture date was 1979?!!! For reference I took out my model 2022 saddle and it does seem that I’m looking at a 44 year old copper riveted vintage saddle, well cared for. This bike is a mystery, it looks like someone cared for it but it also seems old and barely used. Who would send a bike to the junkyard with a saddle worth several hundred dollars on it!?! What a mystery.
Also, if anyone cares, I towed the bike home on my Tern GSD cargo bike 😁 I had a very bikey day today!
