After riding my Ripmo for \~5y and moving to a less aggro style area of riding, I am looking for something lighter, snappier, and more fun charging uphill.

I test rode the new Epic 8, fell in love, and put a deposit down on an Expert. Now I’m starting to get pre-buyers remorse because not only is it expensive (>$7k) but the used market for \~2-3 year old downcountry bikes range between 3-4k for high end builds. Example – [https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3789685/](https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3789685/)

I can’t help but feel like I’m being a bit foolish with the new Epic. Luckily, I have more than enough money and income so it’s less about the spend and more about the value I’d be getting per $.

Would love your opinions!

  1. Eh, it’s a case of the the grass is always greener. I bought a high-end 2022 Rocky Mountain Instinct used. It’s a great bike, absolutely no complaints, but I’m still eyeing the new 2024 Instincts, even though they’re very similar to the old ones. So even if you buy used, you’ll still be coveting new bikes.

I will say that I’d find it tough to buy a new bike at MSRP right now.
