Hi, so this is going to be my first ever gravel bike, that costs that much. I am planning to buy a Cannondale Topstone 4 bike, which is on sale at a local store. The shop only has one last bike left, but this bike has a chip on the frame as shown in the pictures. They are giving me an additional 5% off due to that.
Should I be buying this bike? I dont know if this is just a paint or a deeper issue with the carbon. Open to interpretations. Buying a new bike with a chip seems crazy to me.
On the other hand, Trek ALR 5 is on sale too but it has an aluminium frame and seems like the specs are also not as good as Cannondale. I might be wrong as I don’t have much experience with bikes.

Structurally the bike is fine but for me if I’m buying a new bike I want it to look new. 5% off would not be worth it to me personally. I am also looking at the checkpoint either the alr or sl. Also don’t be opposed to aluminum frames.
I think you might get them to lower the price a lot more than 5%, at least try – I’d go for 20% off and see where they want to meet.
Btw, I just recently learned about quality issues with topstones, are you sure this is the bike you want?
I think I’d be happy with 10% off if I really wanted the bike.
At least with a scratch/chip already in it you won’t be as annoyed when you inevitably scratch/chip it the first time 😅
