I’m apart of a highschool raceing team that uses carts to race the carts have bike wheels and ours are starting to wear down so we’re in the market for a new set I’ve seen the nationalist teams run slicks on there carts so I’ve been looking for some for ours but I can’t find a true slick at our rim size so I’m asking if the smaller tire will fit or if I have to keep looking

  1. If you have any other tire suggestions or questions please feel free to ask and tell me

  2. Generally wouldn’t recommend putting a tire on a rim that’s wider than it, you’re likely to damage the rim going over bumps. Schwalbe is an excellent choice of brand though, and they do have a number of good options in the 20×1.75-2.00 range that would work for that rim size. The Big Apple comes to mind

  3. Can’t give you a straight answer, but I would doubt it. Your tire’s got two parts to be concerned about if you can get the bead to do its thing and how much of the side wall will you be rolling on.

I doubt you’ll be able to mount the tire, but if you can, how comfortable are you rolling on the much weaker sidewall? I’d advise against for both reasons.

That said: BMX stuff might be a better bet. [https://shop.odysseybmx.com/collections/odyssey-tires](https://shop.odysseybmx.com/collections/odyssey-tires)

  4. The rim is very unlikely to be 1.75, the measurement you need to know is the inner flange width of the rim.

Also worth noting that there are two different 20″ wheel standards. 406 (common on BMX) and 451 (common on folders, minivelo, and some recumbents especially in East Asia).

Sorting by ETRTO will ensure you have the correct 20″ tire circumference and the inner flange width will tell you if the 1.35 tire will seat.

I want to say any inner flange between ~16-25mm will be ok with both a 1.35 – 1.75. If closer to ~23-25mm I would check with the tire manufacturers’ website which will most likely will have charts. Sorry about mixing standards, the 1.35 is around 35mm and the 1.75 is around 44mm.
