This is very much a “JUST MY EXPERIENCE”, but I’ve had too many Shimano chains with issues, and switched to KMC as I prefer the linking system they use and have had less chain issues since switching to them.

Did you wax the quick link too?
In my experience, wax builds up on the quick link and interferes with the installation. There’s enough wax on the adjacent links to put the quick link on “dry.”

Sometimes when I install a chain I get a stiff link. I just bend the chain a bit to flex it and loosen the pin fit. Works like a charm.

I’d put a drop or two of oil in there. If there’s a buildup of wax that will soften it. If it needs lube it will penetrate better than wax.
