Im setting up a moustache bar with bar end shifters, and as of now have planned to hide the housing all the way under the bar tape. The required slack of housing looks a bit odd though, so i wondered if someone had a third option other than releasing the housing after passing the brake lever, which from my experience (or poor wrapping) substantially decreases the lifespan of the bar tape job

I can shorten the housing on each side further 2 or 3 cm, for a symmetrical length 😅 but not further
On moustache bars, I route the shift cables the way I would with bar-end shifters on drop bars: wrap them under the tape until the bend in the bar, then let them loop freely from there to the housing stops.

I’ve always run my housing for bar end shifters on drop bars all the way up to the end of the tape/stem area. I’d do the same with mustache bars. It just looks better that way to me. Some folks claim the extra bends degrade shifting performance, but I’ve never had an issue, even if I’m running indexed shifters.
Got dang! Is that original condition?
I’ll be more concern by how bad your brake are set.
