Iโ€™m planning a long bikepacking trip from Poland to Baku, Azerbaijan, on my carbon Canyon Grizl. Iโ€™ve undertaken similar but shorter journeys before, with the longest one being about 2400 km. Considering this, do you think embarking on such a route with a carbon bike is a bad idea? Iโ€™ve logged over 20,000 km on this bike, including gravel ultramarathons, across various terrains without any issues. Nonetheless, thereโ€™s a prevailing opinion that for serious trips, a steel bike is preferable. What are your thoughts? Do you have any relevant experience?

PS I’m attaching the picture of my current setup

  1. Ride the bike you have. I think you have your answer in the fact that you have done ultras on this thing. Would be crazy to switch up from a bike you are this adjusted to imo. Itโ€™s a gravel bike after all – not even sure why steel is preferred or why material matters in this instance just because your trip is longer. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ
