I’ve been modding this late 90’s hardrock over the winter in order to make it more comfortable (and more fun) to ride/ pack. I am split as to what kind of brake hanger I want to get now that I’ve changed the stem. I’ve seen ones that go through the “reflector mount” on the forks and extend up a ways. I’ve also seen some that replace a threaded spacer for the headset and then extend down. Problem with the second is the new stem that’s coming is going to be in the way. Ideas?

The new stem is going to interfere with the housing hangar that will be below the top jam nut on the headset?
I tend to change them for v-brakes. Better brakes and no hanger required. The main downside is that you need new levers too.
Origin8 has a cable stop that will bolt onto the fork. It uses the hole through the fork crown that’s typically used for reflectors.
Had the same issue with some build many years ago.
I used a fork mounted cable hanger before with great results. Gets everything well clear of the stem area and seems to reduce the brake shudder that happens with spacer/stem mounted hangers. It was a good solution.
The one I had was made by Tektro but appears to be discontinued.
