The 200 km Brevet 2023 “Around the Schlei”! With a lot of rain and a lot of headwind but it was a lot of fun! Up in Schleswig-Holstein – from Kiel you go around the Schlei and back. The start is in Schönkirchen. It then goes around the inner fjord
Over the Nordostsekanal – the high bridge – Gettorf – Eckernförde – the first checkpoint is Rieseby. And we continue up to Kappeln to the end of the Schlei or the start of the Schlei. And then a lot against the wind down to Schleswig. Once up the Aschberg – a great viewing point
And then around the Wittensee, around the Westensee, across the canal and back to Kiel. I can find 2 minutes. Who has an iPhone? I! Come here and tell him how to set up location sharing. Ho Ho Ho! Yes, everyone is looking at how to use this digital certification card. So – for many this is the first time.
Yes – that’s not true! I’m not allowed to drive! We should all go together!!! So – nothing happens to me anymore. Ahhh? Verify and upload! Select photo Well – repeat! Okay – upload photo. On the head??? Well, now I have…??? Rieseby – the next one – that’s right??? Okay – seems to work!
So – logged in. The launch has started – on the map. So now you take a photo! from me or from the boys here and then… [Music] Claudia do you still have printed out tickets or did you take them with you? Make a picture… ???
Start the navigation system here – everything is nicely packed! for a lot of rain. Can this be done with a glove? Of course not! Rain mode??? Okay – looks good. AUDAX 200 in Schleswig-Holstein! Almost 120 participants are registered. Ah – yes, the second group is starting and I belong to it.
Yes, the weather is pretty shit today. It’s always raining – that’s why I ride with rubber gloves. Everything packed including the feet. Put it in a bag twice. We’re going to Kappeln. We have a bit of wind from behind.
There is hardly any wind now and later it turns up. And then we have it diagonally from the front. Then not with slipstreaming either. But 55 kilometers per hour from the front. That should definitely be a 90 km long route.
Then we hope that everyone gets through safely, no one gets a flat tire, no one has an accident. slowly leaves Kiel via a canal. The start used to be here – directly under the bridge. Along the HDW, the shipyard in Kiel or formerly HDW now it is Thyssen. This is the Germanierhafen.
With old traditional boats or traditional sailing ships. We continue over the Hörnbrücke. The end at the Hörn, the end of the Kiel Fjord. Yes, they are also here in winter, at least partially. And this is now the bascule bridge, which always caused problems in the first few years.
Because this folding mechanism seemed so complicated. And then the part kept breaking. I would say the heart of Kiel is here!!! 0:10:40.800,0:10:46.680 And then my colleague just recognized me because I was once a guest on “Enjoy your Bike”! Of course, he only told me based on the bike and my rain pants,
Which I have here as…. these are old children’s pants from my children… which I have converted into a carrying bag here or an underframe bag. He looked at it, noticed it and recognized it after 4 years. It was Dan’s pick. In podcast number 15 I think the
Self-made rain pants bag….. That’s exactly when we head towards the high bridge from the canal. Along here is the jetty of the “Stenaline” shit!!! Crap!!! I hope nothing rolled in there… once a beer bottle is open… it’s really terrible in the city – you can’t move forward. Satorikai Kiel Castle behind me.
And it starts to rain again. Luckily only slightly but I hope all the bags I’m rolled up in will keep me dry, at least for many, many kilometers. Yes, he’s tough as nails here!!! He’s wearing shorts – his socks will float afterwards.
His shoes will probably be too. Let’s see if I can find him again later and ask if he’s cold. Kiel Art Gallery So we pass the Kiel Fjord one last time. This is the state parliament here in Schleswig-Holstein. And here we have the wonderful Düsternbrook fjord, the district here.
A very popular running route. You can watch the ferries. There’s always something going on here, out there it’s the Stena. And the Tirpitzhafen and behind it is the canal. This is the high bridge – the Kiel lock is behind there.
And there’s nothing going on on the road. Right where I’m driving over here, a few months ago a ship crashed into it and it had a huge crane on it. They then had to close the track here or this partial bridge
And go out of Kiel into the Danish Forest or Dänischer Wohld that is – towards Gettorf. Then to Riseby and then at some point the wind will probably come with the wind at your back. Then to Kappeln – the beginning and end of the Schlei, the longest fjord in Germany.
So – slipstream – but dirt in the face but it has a mudguard – but it doesn’t help. I want that group. So nice to be in the group. Driving is stupid, it takes a lot out of your heart and soul. This is now Tüttendorf and this is where the Tüttendorfer Egg is.
A huge gas tank for biogas, which is currently the largest in Germany. We drive straight past the town sign. This is the thing here, the Tüttendorfer Ei is the largest biogas storage facility in Germany. At least at the moment. The next places are Gettorf, then we go to Eckernfde and then
We go to the Schlei. The next shower is already waiting. Everything dark blue. But with this wind you don’t know whether you’ll catch it or whether it’ll be gone when you get there. So we are now just before Eckernförde. Walk through the forest again and then
We see Eckernförde Bay. Drive along the beach and into Eckerförde. Then we go to Rieseby, where we get the first stamp. This fast group rushed past! Aren’t the others coming with us? I don’t know? But large groups are always great.
Now it’s time to go. Down until we see the water just before Eckernförde. They give you speed! And there she is! The Eckernförde Bay! A little traffic jam here. So boring people!!!! Comes!!! Oh – there’s more to come Just like in triathlon – when green… GO!!!
Now it comes – storm from the front and casting!! And someone just got caught here! Now he has to mend his tire in this weather. You can’t see much through these glasses. Nothing to see here! That should be Riesby now. Now to the exit from the town to the gas station.
Yes – that’s what it looks like! Everything is wet – but it’s dry inside! They’ll be driving again soon .

Hallo Guido,
Sehr coole Fahrt – Respekt
